The notion of mass in Riemannian geometry has developed into a rich theory of geometric invariants for noncompact manifolds. Stemming from general relativity via the ADM mass of asymptotically flat manifolds and its positivity and rigidity properties, the subject now encompasses a broad spectrum of geometric settings, including asymptotically hyperbolic and asymptotically locally flat manifolds. Recent years have seen significant advances in the understanding of these mass-type invariants through spinorial methods and Weitzenboeck formulas, Hamiltonian and divergence identities, and analyses of asymptotic symmetries and conserved charges.
Although most mass invariants are intertwined with scalar curvature, generalisations of mass invariants to nonlinear curvature invariants, such as Gauss-Bonnet-Chern and more general Lovelock-type masses, have since been developed. Progress has been made on questions of positivity and stability, including low-regularity settings, and the geometric characterisation of mass minimisers.
We aim to bring together mathematicians interested in different notions of mass to share ideas and build new collaborations.
The conference will be held at Lulea University of Technology in the north of Sweden, from January 11th to January 15th, 2027. Lulea is close to the arctic circle, so we hope for some beautiful winter weather and a chance to see the northern lights in the evenings.

Registration is open for the 6th Testing Gravity conference at SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver, January 27-30, 2027. Like the previous meetings in this series, TG2027 will feature the latest updates from the gravitational wave detectors, laboratory tests, cosmological surveys and other experiments, as well as discussions of recent theoretical advances.
Testing Gravity remains a topical theme because of the unexplained nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy and the long-standing failure to reconcile gravity with quantum physics. The Testing Gravity conference series aims to provide theorists working on extensions of General Relativity with a realistic perspective on what aspects of their theories can be tested. On the other hand, the experimentalists and observers get a chance to learn about new ideas that their experiments can test.
There will be a one-day "school" on Wednesday, January 27th, featuring review lectures covering the key topics of the conference. The main conference, Jan 28-30, will include invited and contributed talks, and a poster session.

We are hosting the workshop "After the Avalanche: Astrophysical Lessons from the Fourth GW Observing Run" from 22 to 26 February 2027 at the Sexten Center for Astrophysics in Sexten/Sesto, Italy (www.sexten-cfa.eu)
Taking place just a few weeks after the planned full O4 data release, the workshop will be a timely opportunity to discuss the wealth of new results from the expanded gravitational-wave catalogue. We will bring together researchers working on astrophysical theory and modelling, numerical relativity, and gravitational-wave data analysis to explore what the properties of the observed population can tell us about the formation and evolution of merging compact objects and the astrophysical environments in which they originate. We aim to create a collaborative and discussion-focused setting in which participants can present their latest results, connect observations with theoretical predictions, and identify exciting directions for future work.
The core programme will take place at Haus Sexten, located in the centre of Sexten/Sesto, a scenic mountain village in the Dolomite Alps. Shuttle buses between Venice Airport and Sexten/Sesto will operate on 21, 26, and 27 February. Alternatively, the venue can be reached by regional public transport via Innichen/San Candido railway station, followed by a short bus ride to Sexten/Sesto.
Sexten/Sesto lies at the heart of the renowned 3 Zinnen Dolomites winter sports region and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Dolomites. There will be plenty of opportunities to continue discussions with your colleagues on the downhill or cross-country ski trails, or during walks and winter hikes around the village. The conference fee will be EUR 300 and EUR 60 for a conference dinner.

"Loop-the-Loop: Feynman Calculus and its Applications to Gravity and Particle Physics" returns for its third edition, and for the first time it will be an in-person conference at Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy, on 16-20 November 2026. The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) in Shanghai, in collaboration with several other institutions, is organizing the inaugural "International Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics," to be held in Shanghai from December 7 to 11, 2026. We envision this as the start of a recurring series - similar in spirit to the Texas Symposium - that will likely rotate among various institutions across China every few years.
The symposium will cover all major topics in relativistic astrophysics, including (but not limited to) gravity and gravitational waves, formation of black holes of all scales, accretion processes around compact objects, explosive time-domain phenomena (e.g. supernovae, GRBs, TDEs), rotation and magnetically powered sources (e.g. pulsars, magnetars, FRBs), particle astrophysics (cosmic rays, gamma-rays and neutrinos), plasma astrophysics (including laboratory probes) and future high-energy astrophysics missions.
Format: Oral talks + poster presentations (displayed throughout the conference). Oral talks will include both invited/solicited talks and contributed talks. Given the diverse topics covered by the symposium, it is likely the afternoon oral talks will be divided into 2-3 parallel sessions. There will be dedicated poster sessions. This conference is in-person only.
The maximum number of participants in the conference is limited to 300.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences Youth-Led Vanguard International Symposium "Toward Sub-micro-arcsecond Astrometry: Scientific Opportunities and Measurement Pathways" will bring together invited experts and young researchers to discuss the scientific opportunities, technical challenges, and future directions of astrometry beyond the micro-arcsecond frontier.
Astrometry provides a direct way to address fundamental questions in astronomy and physics, from the formation of planetary systems and the evolution of stellar and compact-object systems to the structure of the Milky Way and the behavior of gravity across different spatial and temporal scales. By measuring positions, parallaxes, proper motions, orbital motions, and relativistic perturbations, astrometry offers a unique dynamical view of the Universe.
The Gaia mission has demonstrated the transformative power of space optical astrometry and has established an unprecedented astrometric foundation for modern astronomy. However, many frontier science cases require accuracies beyond the reach of Gaia, including the detection and mass measurement of terrestrial exoplanets around nearby stars, compact-object systems, gravitational-wave-related astrometric signals, and subtle dynamical effects that demand precision and systematic-error control at or beyond the micro-arcsecond level.
The symposium will focus on three core themes: science drivers at micro- and sub-micro-arcsecond precision, future measurement pathways involving instrument concepts, detectors, metrology, and observing strategies, and relativistic astrometric modeling with ephemeris support. A final discussion will explore a possible roadmap toward future space-borne sub-micro-arcsecond astrometry concepts and the associated next-generation technological capabilities.
The goal of the symposium is to provide a small, focused, and discussion-oriented forum for invited experts to openly discuss major scientific and technological challenges, possible solutions, future directions, and preliminary ideas that may help shape the path toward sub-micro-arcsecond astrometry.
The symposium will be held on December 7-10, 2026, at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 80 Nandan Road, Shanghai, China.

The High Energy Physics, Cosmology and Astrophysics Theory (HEPCAT) group in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship starting in 2027. The HEPCAT group was established in 2019 around the South African Research Chair in Physical Cosmology held by Amanda Weltman. Group members conduct research on a wide range of theoretical physics, cosmology and astrophysics problems, with a particular focus on bridging observation and theory.

We have active involvement in MeerKAT Large Survey Projects (LSPs), the MeerKAT Pulsar Timing Array project and other pulsar focused MeerKAT Open Time projects, the HIRAX experiment and IAXO at CERN. There are additional opportunities to perform joint work across all group research areas, including astrophysics, machine learning and theoretical cosmology more broadly. There will also be opportunities to join external collaborations, including work on MeerKAT, IAXO, the SKA and the HIRAX experiment.
We will consider candidates with a range of interests related to cosmology, gravity and high energy theory, with an emphasis on research within Fast Radio Burst cosmology/astrophysics, intensity mapping, multi-messenger astrophysics, pulsar timing arrays, transient science, effective field theory, gravitational waves, chameleon gravity and using Machine Learning techniques in physics and astrophysics. Applicants must have a track record of accomplishment and independence in their research.
The appointment must comply with the University's approved policies, procedures and practices for the postdoctoral sector, and is subject to the rules and approval of the University of Cape Town and the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
The appointment is for two years at the outset, with a possible extension of one year subject to satisfactory progress and NRF approval. A PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics or Astronomy is required. Postdoctoral experience is a bonus however the candidate needs to be within 5 years from the date of PhD at the start of the position and may not have held a full-time permanent academic or professional post. The successful applicant will be required to register as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Cape Town.

To increase the scientific return from its space science missions, the European Space Agency (ESA) welcomes applications from scientists interested in pursuing research projects based on data publicly available in the ESA Space Science Archives (https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/esdc)
The ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme is open to scientists, at all career levels, who are affiliated with institutes in ESA Member States and Cooperating States. All visits must comply with the ESA security directives, which may necessitate additional checks. Early-career scientists and PhD students are particularly encouraged to apply. We encourage applications from women and minorities. The peer-review evaluation process is anonymised to ensure equal opportunities for all applicants.
During their stay, visiting scientists will have access to archives and mission specialists for help with the retrieval, calibration, and analysis of archival data. In principle, all areas of space research covered by ESA science missions can be supported.
Residence lasts typically between one and three months, also distributed over multiple visits. Research projects can be carried out at ESAC (Madrid, Spain) and at ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands). To offset the expenses incurred by visitors, ESA covers travel costs from and to the home institution and provides support for lodging expenses and meals.

Applications are invited for two funded Master of Science (MSc) positions in Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Heliudson Bernardo.
One position is expected to begin in Winter 2027, in January 2027, and the second in Fall 2027, in September 2027.
The January 2027 position is open only to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, and other applicants who meet the University of Lethbridge's definition of a domestic applicant. The September 2027 position is open to both domestic and international applicants.
Graduate students are supported by a combination of teaching and research assistantships and scholarships, which is generally sufficient to cover tuition and living expenses. Application deadlines:
Winter 2027 position: To receive full consideration, applications should be received no later than September 15, 2026.
Fall 2027 position: Applications received by December 1, 2026 will receive full consideration. Review may continue after this date until the position is filled.
This preliminary selection process identifies candidates whom Professor Bernardo is prepared to support as prospective supervisor. Selection through this process does not constitute an offer of admission. Selected candidates must submit a separate formal application to the University of Lethbridge School of Graduate Studies and satisfy all University admission requirements.
Research areas:
Potential research topics include cosmology, quantum gravity theory and phenomenology, foundations of quantum mechanics, and physics in curved spacetimes. The specific research project will be developed jointly, taking into account the student's preparation and research interests.
The successful students will join the theoretical-physics research environment at the University of Lethbridge and will have opportunities to interact with researchers associated with the Quantum Horizons Alberta and the broader Canadian theoretical-physics community.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold, or expect to complete before the proposed starting date, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or equivalent in physics, theoretical physics, mathematical physics, or a closely related discipline. Applicants must also meet the formal admission requirements of the University of Lethbridge MSc program.
A solid foundation in core undergraduate physics and mathematics is expected. Previous exposure to general relativity, quantum field theory, cosmology, differential geometry, numerical methods, symbolic computation, or scientific programming will be an asset but is not an absolute requirement. Applicants are not expected to have completed every advanced subject listed above.
