In recent years, however, several theoretical branches of physics based on the framework of first quantisation have blossomed, complementing better-known field-theoretic approaches. This workshop aims to bring together these research communities, identifying shared challenges, exchanging cutting edge theoretical tools, and fostering new interdisciplinary collaborations. The workshop will cover the following themes: * Foundations of the first quantised worldline approach to quantum field theory * Gravity in the first quantised approach * Non-perturbative techniques in first quantisation * Quantum computing in first quantised frameworks. A series of invited talks will present up-to-date results while keeping them accessible to non-experts. Part II of this workshop will be held in Summer 2026 at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Applications for Part I are now open on the event website. When compact objects such as neutron stars or stellar-mass black holes venture into the vicinity of giant black holes, they can form highly asymmetric and strongly relativistic binary systems known as extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs). EMRIs are some of the most promising gravitational-wave sources that the upcoming space mission LISA might observe, but also some of the most difficult to model, detect and characterise. The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts in EMRI science and LISA data analysis, to assess the state of the art in the field and to further develop plans for the optimal extraction of science from such sources. The workshop will focus mainly on data analysis techniques for EMRI search and inference in the broader context of the LISA global fit, but will naturally extend to adjacent topics such as the construction of accurate and efficient waveform templates, and the impact of astrophysical environments on EMRI modelling and interpretation. To facilitate productive interaction, the workshop will be capped at 40 participants, and will allocate plenty of time for discussion and collaboration while limiting the number of talks each day. The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA consortium's observations of hundreds of transient GW events from merging stellar mass black holes and neutron stars during the last decade have inaugurated the era of GW Astronomy by deepening our knowledge of these extreme stars of Einstein's General Relativity. Rapidly maturing Pulsar Timing Array efforts have provided glimpses of nanohertz GWs, offering new insights into high-energy phenomena in the early Universe and supermassive black hole binaries. The upcoming/proposed GW observatories like SKA, LIGO-India, LISA, Taiji/TianQin, ET, CE, and LILA are expected to address some of the most pressing challenges in modern cosmology, such as the Hubble tension and the nature of inflation in the early Universe while providing ultra-sensitive tests for Einstein's universe. The workshop APCTP-GW2025 aims to bring together researchers from the Asia Pacific region who are working on various aspects of the rapidly advancing field of GW astronomy. In particular, our understanding of space-time structure in quantum field theory might be in for an overhaul. Twistor theory, trace dynamics, and the number system known as octonions, will possibly play an important role in this improved understanding of space-time. Octonions have also emerged significantly in recent years in the investigation of elementary particles, the standard model, and its unification with gravitation. Perhaps the foundational underpinnings of quantum gravity, as well as of particle physics, need to be examined afresh. Do we need dark matter, or a modified law of gravitation? Does the standard model of cosmology need a revision? The present lecture series presents ongoing research from eminent physicists and mathematicians working in these fields. All the data analysis studies are performed in collaboration with theory specialists and use the IRMP computing center that also serves CERN experiments (CMS and NA62), IceCube, KM3NeT, muography, and projects in theoretical particle physics and cosmology. The UCLouvain GW group is also involved in instrumentation projects for both Virgo and the future Einstein Telescope notably at the two research and development facilities, E-TEST and ET Pathfinder. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Justin Janquart, an expert of gravitational wave lensing data analysis, who joined the research group in September 2024. Activities related to the commissioning, operation, and monitoring of Virgo, implying presence on site, are also envisaged as part of the PhD. Nominations for the 2024 GWIC-Braccini Thesis Prize are now open. Members of the gravitational-wave community are invited to nominate students who have performed notable research on any aspect of gravitational-wave science. Theses will be judged on (i) originality and creativity of the research, (ii) importance to the field of gravitational waves and gravitational-wave detection, broadly interpreted, and (iii) clarity of presentation. The winner will receive a certificate of recognition and a prize of US $1,000. The 2024 prize will be awarded at an international meeting in summer 2025. (Please note that the jury decision on the 2023 prize was unfortunately delayed; we expect that the 2023 prize will be announced in February 2025.) In this cycle, the prize will be awarded on a calendar year basis for 2024. Theses should have been accepted by the relevant institution between January 1, 2024 and 31 December 31, 2024. A committee selected from the gravitational-wave community will evaluate the nominations and select the winner. The selection committee will make all determinations about eligibility. Nominations should be submitted by February 28, 2025. The nomination package consists of (i) the thesis, (ii) a letter of nomination from the thesis advisor, (iii) a supporting letter from another scientist familiar with the work, and (iv) a single-page abstract of the thesis written by the nominee. The nomination and supporting letters should describe the importance and novelty of the research and the student's particular contribution. Because the large number of submissions imposes a significant burden on the jury, we request that each advisor submit a single nomination, and that they consider whether the thesis is indeed internationally competitive.
