we announce the third edition of the GGI PhD School on: "Theoretical Aspects of Astroparticle Physics, Cosmology and Gravitation"

This School aims at providing robust and detailed introductions on the basic theoretical concepts and main tools to work in the field of Astroparticle Physics, Cosmology and Gravitation. The courses are organized as lectures at the blackboard in the morning and are integrated with hands-on and discussion sessions with an instructor in the afternoon.
The program of the 2022 edition is:
"Gravitational Waves from compact objects" - Lecturer: Sebastiano Bernuzzi (University of Jena)
"Physics of Cosmological Probes" - Lecturer: Martina Gerbino (INFN and University of Ferrara)
"Phase Transitions in the Early Universe" - Lecturer: Mikko Laine (University of Bern)
"Non-thermal messengers from the Universe" - Lecturer: Pasquale Dario Serpico (LAPT, Annecy)
The School will profit of the Galileo Galilei Institute facilities. Each student will have office space to study and discuss, with a lot of opportunities to interact with lecturers.
Accommodation in single apartments will be provided at the cost of about 40 Euros/night upon request. Scholarships to cover this expense are available upon request. Lunch will be provided during the weekdays on the GGI premises for students and lecturers, at no cost. All the dinners and the lunches during the weekends, instead, are to be paid by the participants.

Beyond General Relativity: From Quantum Gravity to the Dark Universe
(IOP Gravitational Physics Group Annual Meeting)

Spontaneous Workshop (SW) brings together specialists in particle physics, astrophysics and theoretical physics at the Institute of Scientific Studies of Cargese (IESC) to exchange recent knowledge on Cosmology in a constructive atmosphere. We are very happy to announce the Nordic Winter School for Particle Physics and Cosmology 2022 on January 19-24.
The school takes place at a delightful ski resort, and is mostly aimed at phd students, but also at junior postdocs and outstanding master's students.
Students admitted to the school would be covered for all local expenses. Of course, we will assure that we transition in caution to the post-pandemic world.
In this edition of the school we have made gravity the overarching theme - from real-world gravitational-wave science to gravity theory and amplitudes research.

Metric-Affine Frameworks for Gravity 2022 is a workshop focusing upon the various approaches to gravity, where the geometric setup assumes besides the metric also an independent affine connection. The international conference Loops' 22 will be held at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) in France from Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22, 2022. Loops' 22 is the most recent conference in a long tradition of biannual meetings focused on loop quantum gravity and background independent approaches to quantum gravity. Initially planned in 2021 as Loops' 21, it has been postponed by one year.
The scientific program of Loops' 22 will highlight the recent progress and exciting developments in quantum gravity and cosmology, with a special focus on loop quantum gravity and related approaches. Remote online participation will be possible. The conference will be the opportunity for young researchers to meet the experts and leading scientists working on and around loop quantum gravity.

The Leonard E. Parker Center for Gravitation, Cosmology, and Astrophysics (CGCA) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for one or more postdoctoral research positions. The initial appointments are for one year, with renewal for a second (and, in most cases, a third) year contingent on continued funding and satisfactory performance. Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astrophysics, or a related field.
The CGCA at UWM has active research efforts in astronomy, astrophysics, gravity, and cosmology, with membership in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the Zwicky Transient Facility, the GROWTH collaboration, the Murchison Widefield Array, and others. The CGCA also hosts the NANOGrav Physics Frontiers Center. The core group is comprised of 7 faculty (Brady, Chang, Creighton, Erb, Kaplan, Vigeland and Wiseman), 8 scientists, 9 postdocs, and 14 graduate students. Profs. Allen and Papa (now at the Albert Einstein Institute, AEI) maintain partial adjunct appointments at UWM, and emeritus faculty Friedman and Parker participate broadly in the academic life of the Center.

The Heising-Simons Collaboration on "Observational Signatures of Quantum Gravity" invites postdoctoral applications for up to five Heising-Simons Fellows in Quantum Gravity, to begin around September 1, 2022.
The goal of this collaboration is to bring together theorists from diverse backgrounds to develop theoretically well-founded proposals of quantum gravity and explore their possible observational signatures. We believe that connecting formal advances in quantum gravity to the natural world we live in could result in a true breakthrough. We therefore seek a paradigm shift that brings theory and observation together, helping to close the chasm between quantum mechanics and gravity. We will tackle foundational issues, effective descriptions, and observational tests of those effective descriptions. The ideal candidate will have technical skills to work in gravity and will be interested in exploring new questions related to possible observability of quantum effects in gravity, manifested in laboratory experiments such as interferometers, cosmological observation, or observation of astrophysical objects such as black holes e.g. via gravitational waves. The appointment requires completion of a PhD and is expected to start as early as September 2022 with competitive compensation and significant research travel support. The initial appointment will be for two years with expected renewal for one additional year; in rare cases the appointment might be extended to a fourth year.

The position
The Institute for Gravitational and Subatomic Physics (GRASP) at Utrecht University and Nikhef, the national institute for subatomic physics in The Netherlands, are looking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to explore and develop search algorithms and mock data sets for the third-generation of gravitational-wave detectors. The successful candidate will be embedded in the gravitational waves (GW) group of Dr. Sarah Caudill and Professor Chris Van Den Broeck and will be a member of the Virgo Collaboration, which together with the LIGO Scientific Collaboration jointly analyses all GW data from the LIGO and Virgo interferometers.
The successful candidate will work within the OPZuid stimulus program, which aims to fund innovation by promoting crossovers between industry and academia. The successful applicant will collaborate with the financial trading company Boosting Alpha B.V. and Open University of the Netherlands to develop machine-learning-based anomaly detection algorithms and realistic mock data sets for the next generation of gravitational-wave detectors such as the Einstein Telescope.
Qualifications

This full-time position can start any time before October 2022 and is split between the University of Nottingham, UK and UIUC, Illinois, USA.
