After an effort that started in 1907, Einstein presented to the Prussian Academy of Sciences, on November 25, 1915, the final formulation of his new theory of gravitation. He called it the General Theory of Relativity, or General Relativity (GR), for short. The corresponding paper was published with the title "Die Grundlage der allgemeinen Relativitaetstheorie" in the journal Annalen der Physik in the beginning of 1916.
Gravitation is the most intriguing among the fundamental interactions in the Universe. In its 100-year-long history, GR has passed many stringent tests, and is now accepted as the standard theory of gravity and one of mankind's greatest achievements. In the last decades a formidable intellectual effort has shown that the full-fledged nature of Einstein's theory offers much more than a beautiful description of stellar, galactic and cosmological interactions. In the quest for the ultimate theory of gravity, new spectacular connections between high-energy physics, astrophysics, cosmology and theoretical physics have emerged.
To celebrate the centenary of Einstein's greatest achievement, the conference GR 100 years in Lisbon will be held at Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Lisbon, in 18-19 December 2015. For those who have not yet celebrated this date, this is certainly a wonderful opportunity to pay homage to the the General Theory of Relativity.
The conference will be followed by the Black Hole Workshop VIII held at IST from 21-22 December 2015. All participants are warmly encouraged to attend both events.
If you are interested in giving a talk in the conference, please register and give the title and abstract of the talk before October, 31st. If you are interested in simply attending the conference, please register before October, 31st. To cover coffee breaks and local expenses, a conference fee of 30 Euros is kindly requested. There will be no registration fee for the Black Hole Workshop VIII.

Cardiff Gravitational Physics is seeking applications to fill the position of Research Fellow.
This is a five-year European Research Council (ERC) funded position at the Research Fellow (Grade 7) level.
The emphasis of the post will be on modelling of compact-binary systems using a combination of numerical simulations and analytic methods, and developing algorithms for the detection and study of gravitational-wave signals from compact binary mergers in data from Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo, and GEO-HF. Current group members play leading roles in efforts to search for signals from gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, and the coalescence of neutron star and black hole binaries; and to model astrophysical sources of gravitational waves using analytical and numerical relativity and develop search algorithms for their detection and interpretation with current and future detectors.
The position is available from 1st October 2015, but the precise starting date is negotiable.
Salary: 39,685 - 45,954 GBP per annum (Grade 7)
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. Mark Hannam by email at mark.hannam[AT]astro.cf.ac.uk .
The official closing date is July 1st, but we will consider applications and conduct interviews from Wednesday, June 17th. Cardiff University reserves the right to close this vacancy early should sufficient applications be received.

Additional Information: https://www.dropbox.com/s/56hyuq8imnsogt0/stsm_call1.pdf?dl=0
Two months ago a new European network within the COST framework was inaugurated:
MPNS COST Action MP1405
Quantum structure of spacetime (QSPACE)
Up to now 25 European countries (plus Japan as partner) have signed up so far. We shall soon have a dedicated website, but for now, further information can be found here. The network does not fund positions but workshops, training schools, visits etc. Among its various activities, the so-called `short term scientific missions' (STSMs) play a central role. These are visits of a researcher from one participating country to a colleague in another, for 5-90 days (180 days if PhD was < 8 yrs ago).
Here now comes the first call for such STSMs within our COST Action. So please spread among your colleagues the attached call, since anyone from a COST member country may participate. For your information, I also attach a presentation of the COST rules. We hope for a good number of qualified applications.
With kind regards,
Olaf Lechtenfeld
