Molecule-type workshop on "Radiation Reaction in General Relativity" --------------------------------------------------------------- Announcement on Hyperspace@GU: http://hyperspace.uni-frankfurt.de/?p=10372 Starting: 2015-06-22 to 2015-07-10 Location: Kyoto, Japan Additional Information: http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~capra18/ Contact: capra18[AT]yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp This is a 3-week workshop on radiation reaction problem in general relativity, which includes 18th Capra meeting in the middle. Since the first meeting in 1998 (held at Caltech's Capra ranch near San Diego), Capra meetings have been bringing together relativists interested in the problem of radiation reaction in general relativity and its application to extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs) as one of the best places to test general relativity using direct detection of gravitational waves. The meetings are focused on an important open problem in general relativity, which is getting more and more relevant by the exciting prospect of directly observing gravitational waves in near future. In addition to the discussion about the technical details in the computation of gravitational radiation reaction, this year we would like to discuss more about the connection between the radiation reaction problem and gravitational wave observations. Advanced ground detectors such as advLIGO, advVirgo and KAGRA are going to be on-line in near future. LISA pathfinder is going to be launched in 2015. The space mission DECIGO, which has better sensitivity at the frequency band in the middle of those of the ground detectors and the eLISA, was proposed in Japan. Therefore, it is very timely to have an extensive discussion on this issue. The 18th Capra meeting will last for 4 days. The meeting will composed of a few invited review talks, short contributed presentations, and open discussion sessions. Contributed talks on all aspects of the radiation reaction problem, including related topics such as astrophysical aspects of EMRI or data analysis, are welcome. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1.6. The Chalonge School Meudon Workshop 2015 Warm Dark Matter Cosmology in agreement with observations: CMB, Galaxies, Black holes, and Sterile Neutrinos --------------------------------------------------------------- Announcement on Hyperspace@GU: http://hyperspace.uni-frankfurt.de/2015/02/27/the-chalonge-school-meudon-wor... Starting: 2015-06-10 to 2015-06-12 Location: CIAS Chateau de Meudon, Observatoire de Paris at Meudon, France Additional Information: http://chalonge.obspm.fr/Cias_Meudon2015.html Contact: Chalonge.Ecole[AT]obspm.fr SUMMARY: Warm Dark Matter (WDM) is hot topic in galaxies cosmology and implies novelties in the astrophysical, cosmologicalparticle and nuclear physics context. Warm Dark Matter Cosmology (LWDM) gives the same successfull large scale results and CMB results than Cold Dark Matter (LCDM) and succesfully agrees with the observations at the galactic and small scales. A Turning Point operated recently in the Dark Matter research: Warm Dark Matter (WDM) emerged impressively over Cold Dark Matter (CDM) as the leading Dark Matter candidate. Astronomical evidence that Cold Dark Matter (LambdaCDM) and its proposed tailored baryonic cures do not work at small scales is staggering. This workshop addresses the last developpements in WDM, including its distribution function and equation of state, the quantum mechanical framework to galaxy structure reproducing in particular the observed galaxy cores and their sizes and the dwarf galaxies. This workshop puts together astrophysical, cosmological, particle and nuclear WDM, astronomical observations, theory and WDM analytical and numerical frameworks which reproduce the observations. The Workshop addresses as well the theorical and experimental search for the leading WDM particle candidate: keV sterile neutrinos. Registration is Open. Early registration is strongly encouradged. Previous Chalonge Meudon Workshops of this series, Lectures and Lecturers, Scientific News, .PDF of presentations and Album of Pictures are available at: URL: http://chalonge.obspm.fr Looking forward to Welcome you in Meudon at the Workshop With compliments and kind regards Norma G. Postdoc position at AEI Hannover ------------------------------------------------------------- Announcement on Hyperspace@GU: http://hyperspace.uni-frankfurt.de/?p=10309 Deadline: 2015-03-31 Location: Hannover, Germany Additional Information: http://www.aei.mpg.de/18636/05_Observational_Relativity_and_Cosmology Contact: jobs-gw-han[AT]aei.mpg.de The Max-Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) invites applications from outstanding candidates for post-doctoral and long-term visiting positions in the Division of Observational Relativity and Cosmology in Hannover, Germany. This division, led by Prof. Bruce Allen, consists of more than 20 scientists along with a number of highly-qualified scientific programmers and sysadmins. The senior scientists are Dr. Badri Krishnan and Dr. Reinhard Prix. The division also hosts two independent research groups led by Dr. M. Alessandra Papa and Dr. Holger Pletsch. For post-doctoral positions the initial appointments will be for two years, with the possibility of further extension. The start date is expected to be in the second quarter of 2015, but appointments as early as March 2015 are possible. We also welcome inquiries regarding long-term visits by Faculty and senior researchers. The Division's core research area is gravitational-wave astronomy and the analysis of data from gravitational-wave detectors. However, applications from those with experience in related areas of astronomy and physics are also welcome. We value excellence, creativity, enthusiam, and genuine interest, and chose candidates based as much on their potential as on their specific expertise. We are proud to provide a stimulating and dynamic research environment with broad opportunities for enthusiastic and energetic scientists. Our current focus is the hunt for gravitational waves in data from the most sensitive ground-based interferometric detectors. This includes searches for long-lived signals from rapidly-rotating neutron stars, transient signals from the inspiral and coalescence of binary neutron stars and/or black holes, and unmodelled burst signals. Scientists who participate in the Divisions membership in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration will have full access to data from the LIGO, Virgo and GEO600 detectors. Advances in detector technology make us optimistic that these searches will yield the first detections in the coming 3-5 years, about one century after Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves. Scientists in the division also search for electromagnetic emissions from neutron stars and have discovered many new radio and gamma-ray pulsars. The group operates the ATLAS computing cluster. With 13000+ CPU cores and 1000+ GPUs, ATLAS is the world's largest and most powerful computing resource dedicated to gravitational-wave searches and data analysis. The division also helps to operate Einstein@Home, a volunteer distributed computing project which uses computing power donated by the general public to search for gravitational waves and electromagnetic emission from neutron stars. All application materials, including a cover letter, a CV with a list of publications, and a research statement should be sent to jobs-gw-han[AT]aei.mpg.de. The applicant should also arrange for 2-3 reference letters to be sent to the same email address. Applications will be considered as they arrive, until all positions are filled. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and to increase the number of women in those areas (such as this) where they are underrepresented. We explicitly encourage applications from such qualified individuals. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2.3. Program and a new abstract submission policy of the MG14 meeting ------------------------------------------------------------ Announcement on Hyperspace@GU: http://hyperspace.uni-frankfurt.de/2015/02/27/program-and-a-new-abstract-sub... Additional Information: http://www.icra.it/mg/mg14 The list of invited speakers for the plenary session in MG14 is published on the MG14 website: http://www.icra.it/mg/mg14/invited_speakers.htm The date grid of parallel sessions in MG14 is published on the MG14 website: http://www.icra.it/mg/mg14/timetable.pdf. There are about hundred parallel sessions in all fields of Relativistic Astrophysics. A new procedure for abstract submission has been adopted: when submitting an abstract, it is required also to upload a PDF file with a short summary of the contribution (2 pages for posters, 4 pages for oral contributions, 10 pages for plenary talks) including a complete reference list. The main reason for this new policy is twofold. First, in this way the chairpersons will have more information to evaluate and submit to referee each contribution for acceptance as well as to allocate the appropriate time slots. Second, when the program will be finalized, before the meeting, all the summaries of the accepted contributions (possibly updated, upon chairperson decisions) will be made available to all participants via the conference web page and, after the meeting, they will be published in the MG14 Proceedings Volumes. Detailed instructions on the summary PDF preparation will be available on the abstract submission web page and will be sent via e-mail to all who already registered. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.6.
