To celebrate this event, the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (or Albert Einstein Institute) will host a conference during the week of November 30, 2015, exactly one hundred years after the publication of Einstein's paper. The conference will take place in the recently renovated Harnack House in Berlin, where Albert Einstein regularly lectured between 1915 and 1931. The first two days of the conference (Monday November 30 and Tuesday December 1) will be devoted to a review of recent developments in and future perspectives for General Relativity and its connections to particle physics, cosmology and astrophysics. The third day (Wednesday December 2) will be a joint event with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, with talks on the past, present and future of General Relativity. On December 3-5 the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science will conclude the celebratory events with a workshop on the history of Einstein's theory. Muon flux, through the volcanic structures, will be detected by an innovative portable muon telescope. These measurements could provide essential insights into the geophysical and geomorphological mechanisms that lead to volcano eruptions that could affect the population around those places. The LAGO (Latin American Giant Observatory) project is an extended Astroparticle Observatory at global scale. It is mainly oriented to basic research on three branches of Astroparticle physics: the Extreme Universe, Space Weather phenomena, and Atmospheric Radiation at ground level. The LAGO detection network consists of single or small arrays of particle detectors at ground level, spanning over different sites located at significantly different latitudes (currently from Mexico up to the Antarctic region) and different altitudes (from sea level up to more than 5000 meters over sea level), covering a huge range of geomagnetic rigidity cut-offs and atmospheric absorption/reaction levels. We are looking for a candidate with some high energy instrumentation and good programming skills in experimental HEP/astroparticle data processing to further develop the data acquisition system for the Muon Telescope. Experience in experimental high energy data processing is mandatory, and in astroparticle techniques is desired. Latinoamerican PhD are very welcome to apply The duration of this position is one year, with the possibility of a renewal for an additional period. Applicants for this position should have a PhD (obtained after January 2010) in experimental particle/astroparticle physics, or in a related field with the equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition to exceptional leadership abilities, the applicant must also have the potential to develop into an outstanding teacher at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief description of research interests that could match with MuTe/LAGO experiments, and arrange for three letters of recommendation. We require an enthusiastic graduate with a 1st class degree in Mathematics/Physics/Engineering (in exceptional circumstances a 2(i) class degree can be considered), preferably of the MMath/MSc level. Candidates would need to be keen to work in an interdisciplinary environment and interested in learning about quantum field theory in curved spacetimes, fluid dynamics, analogue gravity, and experimental techniques such as flow visualisation (i.g. Particle Imaging or Laser Doppler Velocimetry) and surface measurements (i.g. profilometry methods). The studentship period will depend on the training needs of the successful applicant. Special Issue "100 Years of Chronogeometrodynamics: the Status of the Einstein's Theory of Gravitation in Its Centennial Year" in the journal Universe ------------------------------------------------------------ Announcement on Hyperspace@GU: http://hyperspace.uni-frankfurt.de/2015/03/24/special-issue-100-years-of-chr... Additional Information: http://www.mdpi.com/journal/universe/special_issues/100years Dear Colleagues, In 1692, Newton wrote: "That gravity should be innate inherent and essential to matter so that one body may act upon another at a distance through a vacuum without the mediation of anything else by and through which their action or force may be conveyed from one to another is to me so great an absurdity that I believe no man who has in philosophical matters any competent faculty of thinking can ever fall into it. Gravity must be caused by an agent acting constantly according to certain laws, but whether this agent be material or immaterial is a question I have left to the consideration of my readers". One of them who, just over 200 years later, picked up the baton of Newton was Albert Einstein. His General Theory of Relativity, which marks the centenary this year, opened up new windows on our comprehension of Nature, disclosed new, previously unpredictable, phenomena occurring when relative velocities dramatically change in intense gravitational fields reaching values close to the speed of light and, for the first time after millennia of speculations, put Cosmology on the firm grounds of empirically testable science. This Special Issue is dedicated to such a grandest achievement of the human thought. Prof. Lorenzo Iorio Prof. Stephon Alexander Prof. Jean-Michel Alimi Prof. Elias C.
